Talk about last minute or what. I put in my media application for these guys two weeks ago. They were scheduled to go on stage at 8:50pm last Thursday evening. At 5:30pm I get the email that I was approved. Quick shower, battery and card check and then out the door.
Great concert however. One would never know that it's been over 8 years since they last toured. Raol still has that Orbison-esque high voice and the horns give the country music a distinct Latin flavour. The guys looked as if they enjoy entertaining and made use of the entire stage with plenty of audience engagement. They gave...
This is what happens on a rainy, dull autumn afternoon when a few people get feeling bored and have nothing better to do. They dress up loosely styled on a Dawn of the Dead theme and head off to the local cemetery.
This is a completely freestyle shoot. Rachelle did all the makeup and costume coordination 2 hours before we headed out and we decided the setups on the fly for each shot. The only preconceived idea that we had was since we only had Andrew as the single male to turn up that the gals would be dominatrix and subject him to their evils. He loved it, and the wind only blew my light stands...
Glen Brown called me last Wednesday to tell me the boys of Bucket List would have an hour and a half available on Saturday for a promo shoot for their 7-member Chicago blues band. I took perverse delight in sending emails to the guys early Saturday that despite the hideously cold and rainy weather the shoot would go as planned. This had turned into the most miserable day since the blizzard of last winter but I had a decent shoot plan and location and was pretty sure I could pull this off. Of course one of them just had to show up wearing white sneakers but what the hell!?!?! Work with what you are given,...
In the very early spring of 2013, before there was even a hint of green, Harrison and I spent some time talking about his music, his influences, and his planned CD. He told me about the planned supporting tour in Europe and Scandinavia and we talked about possible visuals that could describe his album. The music was a return to roots. A complete return. This album is all acoustic and very reminiscent of the deep south porch blues and even field hollers from which most North American blues music originates. We decided to do a test shoot at a little rundown, abandoned farm that I knew of.
Ok,...
BB King at the Centre in the Square.
I spent a wonderful evening in Kitchener the highlight of which was of course, the BB King concert. The Centre is a beautiful theatre, with seating for about 3500 people and every seat was sold out. The acoustics were such that I could stand next to the mains without earplugs. That was pretty novel because I found a little corner down low at the stage where nobody else was shooting from. The shooting pit was actually on one side of the theatre stretching for the first 20 rows of orchestra seating and no shooting from in front. That sucked. Local bluesman, Steve...
